What Is CEREC®
CEREC® is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. To make it simple, this modern technology allows us to design and create restorations in a single visit, directly at our dental office. This machine takes a process that would normally require multiple dental appointments across a few weeks into one convenient visit. You’ll be able to come in for your dental crown, inlay, or onlay, and then get back to your busy schedule in no time!
How Does CEREC® Work?
Dr. Fauver will first take a digital image of your tooth that is in need of the restoration. The CEREC machine has imaging software that creates a 3D model of your restoration from that image. We won’t need to take any messy impressions using those uncomfortable trays because we’ll have these highly detailed images!
Next up is the milling. CEREC restorations are all milled out of a block of biocompatible, ceramic, tooth-colored material that we choose to specifically match the shade of your other teeth. We place this block in the CEREC million unit and in about 15 minutes, it’ll shape the block to fit the virtual model’s exact specifications in an extremely precise manufacturing process.
The last step is placement. We’ll fit your custom-made crown, polish it, and bond it to your tooth. A great thing about being able to create restorations in-house is that we can make any necessary adjustments right then and there instead of having to send materials back and forth from an off-site lab.
What Are the Benefits of CEREC®?
- Rather than having to come in for at least two appointments, we can provide you with a dental crown in just one visit!
- Because there is no significant wait time between when we design your crown and have it milled, you won’t have to wear an uncomfortable, ill-fitting temporary crown.
- A lot of patients dislike the process of taking traditional dental impressions with putty-like material and dental trays, and CEREC replaces the need for that with easy, 3D images.
- Since you’ll get your restoration faster than ever, you can enjoy a confident smile sooner.
